Suction Coupler to Stick on Phone

Back in the day when analog phones were a thing, the Intelligence Community used things that stuck on to the back of the phone using a rubber sticky coupler. These resemble the sticky round rubber stickies found on kids spring loaded sticky darts. These have several advantages over the current technology. With current equipment the line voltage is reduced as the taps are directly connecting to the wire and drawing the current from within that wire. The suction cup recorder is entirely passive. There is no way to determine whether a person has placed on of these stickies to their cell phone, POTS phone, or any other kind of phone. The stickies are made of rubber and stick via a suction cup mechanism to any arbitrary device that you want to record that has a hard surface, the flatter the better. Attached to the rubber sticky is a 3.5mm mono audio wire that can be plugged into anything that can record from 3.5mm inputs. Now you will probably want to get a adapter so that the audio goes into both ears, but the recording itself is only mono so recording via a "field recorder" would be optimal, then copying that file to a computer and removing the unused track of the stereo recording with something like Audacity would work wonders. You don't want any fidelity loss so I'd suggest recording at the very least 192kbps mono in MP3. I don't know if these can still be purchased, but check eBay from time to time and you might find something showing up.

The disadvantage would be using this kind of kit in public. For obvious reasons you can't just walk around with a sticky suction cup on your phone, so in the field, live, you will need to come up with some other solution such as the cell phone as a bug scenario.

Intriguing isn't it? Don't get yourself in trouble. In some jurisdictions this recording is illegal, in others there need to be two witnesses to a recording of this kind, and in still other places this is legal or legal if its recorded live with a person managing the recording equipment. Furthermore, don't do unto others things that you yourself wouldn't be done by.
