Washington, 1936. An eleven-year-old boy stood frozen in a
crowd, his gaze fixed on a strange metal structure. It was a
demonstration of a new military radar. The hiss and crackle
of discharges, the bluish flashes around the antennas -
something in that spectacle captivated him forever. The
boy's name was Edwin Gray. He did not yet know that this day
would determine his destiny and, perhaps, the destiny of all
humanity. He did not know that his path would strangely
intertwine with the legacy of another visionary, who by that
time had long been working in the own shadow of fame -
Nikola Tesla. Years passed. World War II, service in the
army and navy. But that childhood awe before the divine
mystery of electricity never faded. By 1958, in the quiet of
his own garage, Edwin Gray made a breakthrough. His hands,
accustomed to mechanics and wires, had grasped something
ethereal. He called it "the separation of positive
electricity." The world took no notice. But for Gray, it was
a decisive event. By 1961, the first prototype was working -
the EMA (Electric Magnetic Association) motor, a quiet
miracle challenging physics textbooks. At the same time, in
U.S. archives, the patents of another dreamer had long been
gathering dust. Nikola Tesla, as early as 1889, decades
before Gray, had already discovered the nature of radiant
energy. He observed that high-voltage capacitor discharges
generated not electromagnetic waves, but something else -
static surges penetrating matter. He called them ether
particles. His "Magnifying Transmitter" was not just a radio
antenna - it was the key to a bottomless source of ether.
Tesla claimed he could obtain infinite energy from space,
but the scientific community turned away, whispering about
violations of the laws of thermodynamics. Patents US 593138
and 787412 became tombstones for his boldest dream - a
global system of wireless power transmission. The fates of
two inventors, who never met, began to mirror each other,
whether by some malicious pattern or perhaps not. Both used
the same tools: high-voltage capacitors, spark gaps,
magnetic interrupters. Both aimed for the same goal - to
harness a cold, safe, inexhaustible flow. 1973. Edwin Gray
gathers his courage and invites the press. In a modest
laboratory, the incredible happens. He connects a six-volt
battery to his device. Capacitors hiss, building up a
potential of thousands of volts. The motor starts, lamps
light up, a television and radio turn on. Hours pass, but
the voltmeter needle on the battery does not waver. The
battery does not discharge. The climax was a simple but
shocking gesture: Gray takes a lit incandescent lamp and
throws it into a bucket of water. The lamp continues to burn
underwater, and the inventor calmly dips his hand into the
water - no electric shock. This was not electricity in the
conventional sense. It was that same "cold electricity,"
Tesla's radiant energy, resurrected in a device Gray called
the "conversion element switching tube." The mechanism was
brilliant in its simplicity. A high-voltage direct current,
abruptly interrupted by a spark gap, created a
unidirectional pulse. This pulse, passing through a vacuum
tube, released radiant energy into space. It propagated
perpendicular to the wires and could be captured by a
special grid or coil, converting it back into usable current
for charging batteries or powering motors. Tesla used spiral
coils, Gray used charge-receiving grids, but the principle
was the same: to disrupt the conventional flow of electrons
and extract energy from the ether itself. But every light
casts a shadow. 1974. People with a search warrant burst
into the company "EV Gray Enterprises." The laboratory is
sealed, prototypes are confiscated under strange pretexts.
Gray fights. In 1975, he receives his first patent for an
electric motor; later, in 1986 and 1987, two more: US
4595975 and US 4661747, describing in detail his "tube" and
energy enhancement device. He tries to break the conspiracy
of silence. In vain. He was not alone on this thorny path of
fighting dogmatism, that master of bureaucratic minds. There
were others, whose names sounded like mythical legends.
Trevor Constable with his "orgone generators" for cloud
dispersal. Paul Baumann in Switzerland, who created the
mysterious "Testatika" - an electrostatic machine powering
powerful lamps with no visible source. John Keely, Thomas
Moray, Viktor Schauberger, Wilhelm Reich, whom I have
written about before - all of them, each in their own way,
tried to touch etheric technologies, the idea of free
energy. Rudolf Steiner attempted to comprehend the
philosophical foundations of this phenomenon. He described
the ether as a multi-layered reality: light ether (voltage,
capacitance), warmth ether (current, resistance), chemical
ether, and life ether. Ordinary electricity, in his model,
is an unnatural, forced combination of light and warmth
ethers. And radiant energy is a pure manifestation of the
light ether, a room-temperature superconductor that both
Tesla and Gray sought. In 1986, researcher Eric Dollard
takes a color photograph in his laboratory. The image shows
a ghostly, cold discharge of radiant energy, an eloquent
proof of the phenomenon's reality. And a photograph by Tom
Valentine, taken back in 1973, forever preserved the image
of Gray's conversion tubes, radiating their mystery. But
mysteries have a habit of burying their keepers. 1989. Edwin
Gray dies at the age of 64 under mysterious, unresolved
circumstances. His archive, his knowledge, his dream of a
world free from power outlets and oil derricks fade into
oblivion. Modern science, bound by Maxwell's equations and
the laws of thermodynamics, refuses to acknowledge
longitudinal waves in the ether. Radiant energy - energy
that can be obtained by interrupting current, energy that
does not heat conductors, that penetrates any material -
forever becomes heresy.
