If you are ever in need of an inexpensive computer repair suite please check out PartedMagic.com. The author sells it for less than $15 USD. I use it all the time for its nWipe software (a port of DBAN --- Derik's Boot and Nuke). This is used regularly for the repurposing of computers. I regularly receive computers to be wiped clean of all data and I want a nice GUI to do that in. This software works for me.

I have a Parted Magic USB Stick for those times that gParted isn't available under a normal desktop OS.

Its good, and worth the $15 price of admission. IMO.

I didn't realize partedmagic was paid software. It's part of the Hiren suite, so assumed it was 100% open source.

That said, I'm not sure what's compelling enough to use partedmagic when you can just use a live CD of the distro of your choice and run gparted.

TBH, I didn't pay for it either - but I was trying to respect warmfuzzy in case

it is and I.... <cough> got it some other way.

Muahahhaa - anyway, I prefer gParted but sometimes it isn't available when a system went fubar. In those cases, Parted Magic gets the job done.
