• why not to host from german servers

I have had several attempts at hosting my servers from German locations. I have found that there are trolls out there who make it for a very bad experience hosting from there. One time I hosted a BBS on port 23 and I was flooded with warnings that I was using an non-secure port. As if I didn't know that... duh? An other time I got spam saying that my server was flagged as somehow being bad. It was spam messaging on and on and on... it really made for a bad experience using German hosts. When I moved my servers to an American host all these problems went away. I seriously recommend having nothing to do with German vServer or Dedicated Server hosting. The headaches from that really ruin ones day. Then you have to contact your German host and explain why you have port 23 open, not that it's any of their business. The spam keeping flooding in even after I have "resolved" the issue with the German provider. The spamers continued spaming my service provider with warnings and false positives. I really dislike this kind of activity, especially when I was doing absolutely nothing wrong. I wasn't violating any terms of service nor being a bad actor. I highly recommend hosting at any other country than Germany. You don't need the headache and stress, its not worth it. I have omitted the server host here so I'm not directly bashing them, but rather giving the country an overall bad rating. Their servers may cost less, but they're worth less due to all of the spam, disinformation, and general trolling for no good reason. It was like this for both the vServer hosting as well as their Dedicated Server hosting packages. Just stay away unless you want your teeth hurting from grinding them in exasperation.

My recommended hosts are either IONOS or NameCheap. I had a problem with namecheap when my vServer was using too much system resources, probably due to a Denial of Service (DOS) attack. Anyhow I had to move the server to IONOS, from which place i have had zero problems. NameCheap is indeed the cheapest of all alternatives, and they have world class customer support. but the credentials are a hassle having to get my logon and password reissued several times. IONOS is a 1&1 Internet product. 1&1 Internet has been less than stellar in the past, but they seem to have made a new go of it in IONOS. I pay about $80/month $USD for all my server hosting from IONOS, but their servers are exceptionally good with 24/7 technical service over the phone. They use multi-factor authentication and when problems arrive they are fixed within the hour from my personal experience. I've used IONOS since before Covid and I have had no serious problems to report of.

    Sending first hand advice,
