What is the next generation in TEMPEST surveillance? The main problem with TEMPEST technology is that the reception range is short, but how can we fix this transmission/reception range? A new idea is to have a repeater that picks up the TEMPEST emissions, reconstructs the signal, and sends it out via a video bug. The TEMPEST signal itself is low powered, however once the repeater picks up the emissions it re-broadcasts everything on a high powered processed signal. So it goes from the computer monitor to a radio frequency signal to the repeater and back to radio frequency but over a very high frequency signal such as the 2.4 GHz WiFi spectrum to cloak the re-broadcast with all the other WiFi users in your area.

If I were to implement this kind of spy device I'd attach a local bug on some imporant person's keyboard, have the keyboard bug receive the monitor's radiation and send it via a broadcast to the final destination of the the WiFi repeater. WiFi transmitters can send signals in the thousands of feet, allowing a neighbor to pick up the WiFi and its all gold at that point.

This is technically possible, however I do not recommend that you do it as in your jurisdiction that will possibly be illegal. Don't fight the law... the law wins.

Intriguing stuff though, have fun in your dreams of elite technology. From a Sci-Fi perspective, this can be the thing of stories, stories that are based in potential non-fiction.

    Cheers!
