On the topic of exploding pagers

Was just reading about the pagers that were exploding in the middle east and looking at the various countries that those pagers were manufactured and distributed in and it got me thinking about the importance of building and inspecting your own electronics. *If* it is possible for a company and/or distributor (and I am saying IF) to booby-trap a device before it is released to market, then it is ever more important for those with the aptitude to inspect devices and if such a booby-trap is found, then take it to social media and name the device and manufacturer and show proof of the booby-trap. Verify the claim for yourself and show additional evidence to back or disprove it.
I myself prefer to build and design my own electronics, but that is not always the feasible (or possible) option. I know enough about them to perform a visual inspection and determine if there is anything amiss.
I prefer tube electronics when possible. If you are going to booby-trap a circuit, a tube circuit would be much more difficult to do this to, given that you are usually working with large, glass bulbs that expose the inner portions of the tube coupled with the large foot print of the circuit itself. But lets be honest - tube electronics aren't as portable, stable, and power
efficient as solid state digital electronics are and are not a viable alternative to digital electronics.
I am just trying to signal the importance of checking over your electronics when you purchase them, especially if you had them imported. If you see something, say something and provide evidence to back it. If you see a warning, and you also own that device, check into it yourself. Note the name, model number, serial number, manufacturer, and date of purchase and provide that evidence should you also find the same booby-trap.
Your thoughts are always welcome.
