• Why the *#&@ did Putin start the war?

I understand that Putin considers Ukraine part of his empire: that is was Russian, is Russian, and will be Russian. He has used the language card in having all the Russian speaking people of the land he has stolen from get Russian citizenship. Basically it works like this: if you speak Russian and you live in Ukraine you are being offered Russian papers to call Russia home.

But why on Earth did Putin start the war anyways? What is his end game? Some people say it was the land that he wanted because it was so fertile. Others say it was because he wanted an land buffer between Russia and The West. Yet still others think that there was some sort of secret thing happening to which we do not know the full story about. Why oh why is he killing thousands upon thousands of people for what seems to be like a whole lot of pointless killing.

He has called his war a "special military operation." What is so special about this operation of his?

Putin says that he wants to negotiate one day and the next he continues his bombing raids. You can't both want peace and also keep attacking if you honestly plan on making any diplomatic progress.

    Any ideas out there?
