• Absinthe: It Can Kill You ID [Freud]

Some drugs after you take them can change your personality. I consider this a murder/death/kill of your ID (not as in identification, but rather the things called an ID which represents your very basic core "who I am" kind of thing). In many centuries ago Britain outlawed Absinthe as it was detroying people. However, now a days it is universally legalized, and if its not in your area there are several online retailers of it that are very well run operations with quality products. But what I'm trying to get to, is why it was made illegal in the first place, is when people try this drink they have a death of their personality or a death of who their essence really is. This echomail area is about Mind Control, and I wouldn't think that this is any less mind control than the main players in this scene. It scares me. Don't try this drug... your essence may die.

Zero of this is true. It's literally just "another alcohol". Wormwood, which is what *was* outlawed in the US for a while is the only thing that made 'true' absinthe different than the 'fake' stuff you could continue to buy. And that was only banned due to some oldschool FUD, which turns out to not be true at all. The US government essentially poisoned some alcohol for a bit under the guise of Absinthe, then it was outlawed.

It's fine. No more dangerous than any other alcohol.

Insanity from absinthe was caused by bog-standard alcoholism, plus, some absinthes were adulterated with chemicals which were basically poison, usually to achieve a certain color or suchlike.

As an absinthe fan since the early 2000s when I'd have the European ones shipped in by courier to bypass customs, what I can say about modern absinthe is that it is a very high proof drink that tastes of anise and herbs, is delicious, and does nothing unless you drink to excess, which you can do with any spirit.

The drive to ban absinthe in the past was hysteria, the same sort that led to alcohol prohibition generally. And as with most hysteria, there's often - not always - a valid point somewhere in all of the hype.

    This is right.

The focus on the ban was a food regulation, not a drug regulation. The chemical thujone, which comes in with the wormwood, was not approved as a safe-to-consume substance. The ban in the US had nothing to do with drugs, hallucinations, addiction, or anything like that -- at least not the law that was repealed in the 2000s. There is lots of thujone in Vicks Vapo-Rub, but that is not something you consume. If thujone was a hallucinogen, people would be extracting it from countless other (non-consumable) products which contain it. It is simply a not-safe-for-consumption chemical, but not because it is a narcotic.

They figured out how to limit the thujone in absinthe production (PPM) under a certain threshold, which met the new guidelines.

Absinthe today is also much more quality controlled, which is why you can buy it anywhere.

It is fair to say that alcohol can destroy your life; but the best two reasons not to drink absinthe are the alcohol, and secondly, the good stuff is really expensive.

    Troubled,

You should be as all of that is BS and Absinthe quite frankly is legal today in many countries. It's very popular in Czech.

In the past Absinthe in the way it was distilled still included substances that were heavily hallucinogen and that was the root cause of its legal doom.

Now it's just a liquor with an interesting taste..
