There has been a lot of research put into how to sanitize conventional magnetic recording spinning disk hard drives. Personally I only use hard drives for storing massive amounts of data, while for my daily use on my own computer I use SSDs, either 2.5" SATA SSDs or M.2 PCIe SSDs.
I often use Parted Magic as the software to securely wipe devices with. Parted Magic has a tool called nWipe (a fork of Derik's Boot 'n Nuke), which to be specific is the tool I prefer for doing secure deletes. It is really phenomenal software, especially at the $15 USD price tag.
So anyhow, I tend to re-purpose SSDs as well as HDDs. The HDDs part I've come to a place where I'm satisfied as to how to clean them completely. My question here is how do I sanitize solid state drives (SSDs). What's the word on this aspect of computer security? I'm really eager to learn about this as it is useful and practical knowledge that an IT Techie like myself can put to real life use.
Please send along your wisdom here. Thanks!
Cheers!
