While many of my readers are convinced that the pandemic has
ended, the attention of experts and independent observers is
increasingly focused on the chikungunya virus, transmitted
by mosquitoes. In China, according to new information from
Jennifer Zeng (https:/linkcuts.org/ia4jfjhz), the situation
is becoming increasingly dire and desperate. One of the key
figures in the fight against this virus is Zhengli Shi, a senior
researcher at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, known
by the nickname "Batwoman." Previously, she conducted
research related to bats and COVID-19, and now she leads
efforts to control the spread of mosquitoes. In 2020-2022
many media outlets have was accused her of creating an
deadly pathogen (Covid-19). The Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA) launched the DARPA Chikungunya
Challenge program back in 2014-2015, aimed at predicting
cases of the disease and the spread of fever in the Americas (https:/linkcuts.org/4dpa3rw5). DARPA, known for its
innovations for the armed forces, has been studying the
virus since 2012. Other companies, such as Oxitec, have
also conducted research related to genetically modified
mosquitoes, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
in China (https:/linkcuts.org/mmrez7s5). As of July 29, there
were 6,000 reported cases of the disease in Foshan city, and
since then, the virus has reliably spread to other provinces (https:/linkcuts.org/otbxivhd). The situation increasingly
resembles the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, when tests
became widely available despite their labor-intensive
production. The appearance of pre-prepared chikungunya
tests in China also raises questions, given the rarity of this
infection in the country. Media outlets monitoring the
development of events are already openly expressing concerns
about potential consequences for the planet. China remains
a closed country, and information about the virus situation
only became publicly known at the end of July. Some social
media sources claim that elements of the COVID-19 scenario
and the new chikungunya outbreak match in every detail.
In any case, I continue to monitor the situation.
