• Anonymous Archivers Game Changer

The Anonymous Archiver's File Distro Network has gone five fold in upload speed. Unfortunately, AAFDN uses z-modem and z-modem has a maximum transfer speed of 1.4 Megabytes per second per user. The upload (to the client) speed has just changed from 10 Megabit (1.4 M/sec) to 50 Megabit (7.0 M/sec). So that means that five users fully utilizing their collective speeds now is a thing on AAFDN. This may be like this for the next few years, but when synchronous fibre-optic communications comes to this area we will probably be an early-adoptor to that kind of technology, increasing the 50 Mbit all the way to 1024 Mbit. Technically we're already running at gigabit speeds, but only on the download component of an asynchronous traffic. The connection is 50x1024 Mbit. So we still have a long way to go before synchronus (full duplex) same upload to download speeds happens, but when it does look out :) Gigabit synchronus connectivity would mean that we could have around one hundred full capacity z-modem connections concurrently.

The idea was presented to StackFault for him to make a zModemGbit protocol that could handle gigabit Internet connections, so a single user could utilize the full 1024Mbit (1 Gbit) in full for a single user.

If you folks want to make a game changer in the BBS Scene, please encourage StackFault to make this happen. Or possibly send the idea to Google Summer of Code programs or something like it, so that by whatever means for it to get done makes it happen. Being stuck at 1.4 M/sec is annoying. AAFDN has not, nor will ever provide links to the web for file downloads because it is meant to be a boon to the BBS Scene specifically and not meant for general Internet consumption. If the files from AAFDN were all available to everyone then what would the point of the system be? As such, AAFDN will only ever be meant for BBSes. Let's get zModemGbit created: A GAME CHANGER!

    Cheers!

That sounds wild; I'd really like to get 2oFB's file archivez shared with the community, much like AnonArchivers does... I think we have a wealth of data/infoz here....
