  • VeraCrypt's Steganographic File System Images

    VeraCrypt is the modern day best-of-class cryptography solution for keeping your files secure. It has a less well known feature of alloting different areas for where files are stored within the drive image. What this means is that part of the image would have a known file area system within it and it would have a secondary secure hidden cryptographic system that would hide the actually secret data within the "unused" area of the image file. So if you are forced to reveal the password to your primary area you can state that what was revealed is everything, while in secret it is just pocket litter, while the real secret stash is hidden steganographically using a method that does not reveal that there is a hidden stash. I would rate VeraCrypt to be a ten out of ten and I recommend that everyone uses it whether you need to or not. Getting familiarized with this technology before you need it will serve you well.

    I use these exact hidden volumes on my Tails instances... both partitions and files, you can obfuscate date in either - and while theres ways an adversary might THINK you have m0re data... theres absolutely no way to KNOW.

    That being said, it won't really save you from the guillotine - but it will save your data from eyes that CAN'T see it.
