So, some sailors snuck a Starlink internet dish onto the USS Manchest then created a network with extenders. They didn't hide the network name, instead calling it "STINKY".
Plus 10 for ingenuity, minus 1000 for operational security. At least mirror an onboard name or hide the SSID, folks!
A navy lieutenant was fired for it. How ridiculous is it to ascend all those ranks just to lose it all for some internet access? Some people
are really nutes!
Was a Navy Command Senior Chief who was courtmartialled over this (very senior enlisted) and about 14 other Navy Chiefs who were taken to the Captain's Mast (ship level punishment).
The ring leader faked documents and did a lot more than just install a StarLink. The lady minority status of the Command Senior Chief didn't excuse her, and she was busted down to E-7 (people think she got off light compared to the risks and broken trust she created).
At the time StarLink included "Stinky" as one of its default network IDs.
