Best Internet File Server (SFTP/HTTPS)
----------
Some times to get the very best software you will need to pay out a fair bit of money. I have found the very best file server software ever made and I'd like to share the news to you. The software is called CrushFTP, and can be reached from www.crushftp.com. As I said, it can be quite pricey, but it is the best. They are asking $100 USD for the full-featured version. This version boasts unlimited users and easy import of an SSL/TLS signing certificate so you get the fancy green lock symbol when browsing the file server from the web, or in other words you get a secure connection to the file server and need not worry about Meddlers-In-the-Middle (MiM). CrushFTP is also rumored to support WebDAV, but I am at a loss to figure out how to get that working. It's not something I need so I haven't really looked into configuring that. Since everything else works perfectly I anticipate that it will work as well. It offers "anonymous" logons to SFTP/FTP/HTTP/HTTPS, or you can make your file server only serve your internal crew; the software is massively configurable, but not making it too hard to use as a result of its many options. At the time of this writing there is also a trial version so you can see all of its bells and whistles before making the investment. But a good investment it definitely is. I'd rate this software 5/5 or 5 stars---its just that good. I run the software on Ubuntu Linux and I suspect that it runs under Windows as well. Its memory requirements are minimal and the file transfer speed is fairly fast. There is a web interface for very easy file transfers that works with n00b's who like point-and-click interfaces. To be honest I enjoy the web interface as well, as opposed to FTP/SFTP, as some times its just less of a hassle than loading up FileZilla and using FTP/SFTP. Another consideration is that through the HTTPS interface I can fully configure the application in all of its various configurations. The configuration can be entirely configured through the web interface. I think that you'll like it. It may mean saving up a bit of money, but I think for what's offered its worth it. I like it a lot and I think you will too.
Cheers!
