• namecheap.com's new FastVPN service

The famous web host namecheap.com has started up a new VPN service as a new offering of their company. They are offering a $1 trial of their VPN service. In class today I did a presentation on VPN technology and for the event I figured that I should sign up for one of the VPN alternatives. I chose namecheap because it only cost a dollar to try it out. It is very good, it offers OpenVPN technology and allows you to hide your traces in any of the 30 countries available to masquerade from. The speed was fast and it works on Linux. The working on Linux part is really what made me choose this to review. I really *really* don't like the offerings of operating systems made by Microsoft, they have just a far too poor track record on viruses, data leaks, and Blue Screens of Death. Personally my favorites are Ubuntu and its light-weight brother Lubuntu. www.ubuntu.com and www.lubuntu.me...

Anyhow, FastVPN isn't as good as IPvanish or ExpressVPN, however if you're just using it for privacy at an Internet Cafe it does everything you will need it to do. If you need serious privacy and security protection its probably not your best bet, but it is a solid alternative. Initially I found it difficult to find the installation instructions for Linux operating systems, however, once found it was a simple cut and paste procedure, just following some simple instructions.

For a $1 trial I think that it is worth checking out.

    Cheers!

Out of curiosity, what about it doesn't cut it when it comes to serious privacy? Not that I'm overly concerned just curious.

If I didn't know of you and have read your other posts I would have thought this just spam but I checked them out and damn, it's a really good deal. I'm keen to see what their speeds are life but unlimited devices and 1/5th the cost of any other provider is too good to pass up. I have all of my domains with them anyways so I like having my business in one place like that. Thanks for the recommendation

The only thing that it is lacking, but is very much needed for actuall secure communications over VPN is a "kill switch" that disconnects the Internet connection completely when the connection to the VPN gateway goes down. Without this "kill switch" feature you might find yourself surfing "in the clear" and not know it. Disconnecting the connection when the VPN goes down is considered important. This wouldn't happen regularly, but is likely to happen at some point in time.

    Cheers!
