If you like the idea of a text-mode board built around an anime theme, Shurato's Heavenly Sphere might interest you. It's a telnet BBS with message areas and file areas, and its FAQ walks through how to move around both.
The site is
https://shsbbs.net. It has the BBS information, files and games pages, plus the FAQ. Telnet is the main way in, and the current telnet address and port are listed in the FAQ.
If you don't have a terminal client set up, the FAQ describes two other routes. One is a WebSocket terminal that runs in your browser. The other is a simpler web interface for reading and posting. That one doesn't include the games, and you shouldn't expect every BBS feature to work there.
About SSH: the BBS software doesn't support it directly. The FAQ describes reaching the board through a proxy instead, and that route has some limitations. If you run into problems with it, the FAQ suggests switching to the WebSocket terminal.
One more thing: the FAQ mentions NSFW settings that users can configure, so check those after you log in.
For those of you who use themed boards: what makes you come back to one after your first visit? And does a browser terminal matter to you, or do you always use something like SyncTERM?
