Hi all- I've gotten a lot of DM's asking when ATA will be available for download. I've decided that the current Alpha is stable enough to release, so ATABBS 0.1.67 Alpha is now available for download on the site: www.atabbs.com
For those of you who haven't been following, ATA is software that allows you to run a 16-bit DOS BBS on your shared hosting - the same kind you'd set up for Wordpress or similar. No Telnet, no always-on server - just cheap shared hosting and your callers use a URL.
There is currently support for 18 different DOS BBS's - on the site there are demos for each one - including popular ones like VBBS, The Major BBS, Renegade, etc. These are not lookalikes, they are the actual DOS software running in the browser. Multi-node, Doors, SysOp Chat, File upload/download (Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, etc.) is supported. In the SysOp console you can even watch what your callers are doing on the board and break in to chat at any time.
Please note that this is Alpha software. It will have bugs, you can probably break it, and someone is no doubt going to find a security flaw. Hop over to the BBS Preservation Project forums when you do find something and please let me know - www.bbspreservation.org/forum
ATA is completely free, open source and MIT licensed, and always will be.
