The Steam version has access to a Single-Player Mode, and the online official multiplayer game server. This is really just a "support the dev" buy on Steam, because the game is and will always be completely free to on GitHub (https://github.com/binary-knight/usurper-reborn/releases).
For those unfamiliar: I took the original 1993 Usurper by Jakob Dangarden and rebuilt it from the ground up in C#. The soul of the original is there - turn-based combat, town locations, dungeon crawling, player-vs-player; but with a massive amount of new content: A deep, branching narrative with 7 Old God boss encounters and multiple endings 11 base classes + 5 prestige classes unlocked through NG+ cycles Challenging multi-phase boss fights and a real endgame 5 recruitable companions with personal quest lines NPC world simulation - NPCs form relationships, join factions, get married, betray each other, and permanently die Full localization (English, Spanish, Italian in progress) Screen reader accessible (NVDA/JAWS compatible)
It also still runs as a proper BBS door game with DOOR32.SYS/DOOR.SYS support, so sysops can drop it right into their board. Several BBSes are already running it.
