• What would you like to know about the BBS scene if you had access to archives?

    From BBS ( /u/Stettin https://www.reddit.com/user/Stettin ) to All on Thu Feb 5 17:50:49 2026

I am working on a project to visualize the data from my personal BBS. So far I have a few visualization pages, with various reports ready. Thread Galaxy - top threads by message count. Click the thread, see the posters and replies branch out in a cool map, or tree view Quote Explorer - view replies in a nested reply view Handle Atlas - show top posters, including who they replied to most. Map view showing connections with size of circles depending on how many replies to specific people. Time Machine - pick a date range and show the top posts of the week, longest running thread, newest thread, new users to the BBS Board DNA - graph data for one or more conferences. Ex: post character count, profanity %, ASCII %, message total, etc. Discover - keyword search of subject, body, or handle. Links to Thread Galaxy or Handle Atlas
I'm particularly interested in adding search criteria to the Board DNA page, because comparing the different conferences exposes some cool trends. For example there is a definite increase in profanity in the War Board conference.
What kind of searches would you want to do if you had a time capsule? I'd love to try implementing new page ideas as well. This are just the first of a out 10+ ideas I've coded with ChatGPT. Once I have everything working, I will publish the code and include the QWK exports publicly available on textfiles.com. submitted by /u/Stettin [link] [comments]
