ON THIS DAY IN 1975. February 23, 1975. 7:00 p.m. Students Masato Kawano, 7, and Katsuhiro Yamahata, 7, are roller-skating near the Hinode Housing Estate in K¨fu, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, when they see two orange lights overhead. The larger one flies away north toward Mount Atago, but the second one lands next to a nearby vineyard. The children approach the object, but it takes off and lands again in a grapevine trellis. It is a domed object 16 feet in diameter and 6.5 feet high with three landing pads. when they walk within 3 feet of the object, the surface looks silvery. On one side of the craft, Kono finds five characters resembling Japanese, though unrecognizable. There are four similar characters on the other side. A side hatch opens up and a 4-foot-3-inch-tall humanoid occupant emerges. No eyes or mouth are visible, but it has three fangs and its body is glowing silver. It is carrying a long object like a shotgun over its left shoulder. When Yamahata moves around the craft, both boys are able to look inside and see a second occupant, smaller but similar, seated. The other humanoid approaches Yamahata, putting its hand on his shoulder. Kawano panics, grabs Yamahata, and carries him back to his house. The boys return with their mothers to the site, and the orange light is still visible in the distance. Sources:
