• FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE

From Andrew Leary@86:86/1 to All on Sat Mar 14 03:54:26 2026
I finally got around to setting up a FreeBSD 15.0-RELEASE VM. I set it up
as a new install, and it seemed to work okay. I have not tested it extensively. I also haven't tested upgrading from a previous release. I
know someone in here posted a few months ago about issues with upgrading.

I have't done it in a while, but I have successfully upgraded versions in FreeBSD before by following the steps listed in the BSD Handbook.

Hi, I'm glad it worked well for you. I also usually try it that way before updating a system, but... I had bad luck with the pkgbasify version and it gave me a lot of problems when updating the package manager. But in general, it works quite well following the documentation. My idea was to switch from synchronet to mbse, but... I think I'll stick with what I have; I've been testing it and it's quite complicated, from a beginner's perspective like mine.

I upgraded a couple of servers to 15.0-RELEASE via pkgbasify, the only issue I found was something related to keys used to get packages via pkg update/upgrade.
Also upgraded another one to 14.4-RELEASE.

I think I ran into issues while upgrading from 13 to 14 because I didn't upgrade the UEFI partition.

Yeah, I'd gather that might cause a problem or two. :D
