Sunday evening (September 13), I went to see Mark Knopfler (originally of Dire Straits fame) play a concert in my area (on his tour promoting his new album 'Tracker'). I've always been a fan of Dire Straits & Mark Knopfler for his solo work, and it was great to finally see him play live. I have most of his solo albums, although his last few I haven't listened to as much as some of
his earlier albums. So I wasn't sure how much of the concert I'd recognize immediately - But it turned out to be a great concert. It was a good
selection of songs, and I enjoyed even the stuff I wasn't as familiar with.
He played some songs from his latest album Tracker, and from Privateering, The Ragpicker's Dream (Hill Farmer's Blues), among others, as well as some Dire Straits songs (Sultans Of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, Telegraph Road, So Far Away). It was a fairly upbeat concert, and the other musicians who were with him were great as well. The sound system at the venue he played at here was great too.
People have been recording his performances on this tour around the world and posting their videos on YouTube:
