I've got a pfsense box running now; it took more of an effort than I thought it would. pfblockerng-devel and snort may be doing more damage than good. Everytime I try to connect to the secure websocket, I get thrown in the block list... I'm not sure if others can get to it or
not. Does anyone have any good hints for this firewall and increasing security without breaking stuff?

just load RGBOT, esc twice wasn't entered, hangup. You're putting
much
effort into this.

What are you trying to protect? My BBS is on it's own machine that has NOTHING on it. I have my RGBOT bot blocker frontend running before the BBS, and nothing gets thru. Do I get a bunch of hits on port 23?

I'm just having fun. I don't have anything better to do. Plus, my machine is not in a sandbox, the whole thing is in the open. My BBS is in a VM on a well used PC. For some reason, my websocket server wasn't running so that was on me, not pfsense, pfblockerng or snort. However, my ftp server isn't working...

in your case you might get a situation where all your nodes are tied up all day long, or the attacks take up a lot of resources and make your
bbs run like shit. then you will need to protect.

So I looked his IP, put it into the BBS' firewall, restarted the firewall,

People are too chicken shit now a days to do anything like that. It's always hide behind something and look what this script/batch file can do I bought

they arent script kiddies. they are just bots attacking you.
there probably isnt an individual involved.
well back in the day it was using known exploits or calling people up
on the phone and tricking them. that rarely happens now.
what i hate are these sites that want to appear to be legit but they portscan my servers like a maniac all day long. even when they are blocked by synchronet's shitty ip blocking.
my real phone number (i instead use google voice) gets a bunch of shit for 'robert', a guy who used to have my number.
it's funny to hear indians leave msgs saying they are fbi and i have to sen them money because i'm in so much trouble.

Well, I was talking to a Civil Guard a month ago and he told me I could as well kill and rape all I wanted because LEO agencies were overwhelmed with phone scam cases.
Meaning, people is actually falling for phone scams.
eventually they'll with the rest of the world and not answer their phone.

Your optimism is so cute.
I don't think that will come to pass in my lifeltime.
My Iphone is set to reject all unknown callers... only contacts can reach me.

Yeah, I know, but that pretty much nullifies one of the reasons for having a phone. Lots of people discard important calls and never know they did.
I read your message carefully and all I can say is that... I'm not that important. My life is really not that interesting. Who cares to call me.
My contacts are my immediate friends and family and thats it. Everyone else can leave a message and I'll respond if and when I feel like it.
That's how my phone is set up. If you can't leave a message, why should I

Same goes with me. No message, no call back.
If someone leaves me a message it won't be heard. I just
delete voice mail without listening to it. Most of the
time I don't even set voicemail up.

I need to figure out how to set my Galaxy up that way. If they cannot
leave a message I don't want to be bothered with their likely scam call.
Mike
Telus & Koodo also have a feature named "Call Control" which I've enabled.
This will make a caller press a random number before the call is put

Interesting approach. I bet you have a lot less stress and frustration, than those of us that try to answer all the calls.

When is the last time a voice mail was anything other
then a computer calling trying to scam you into giving
gift cards to the gubment so you don't get deported?

I'll answer unknown numbers if I'm waiting for the doctor
or something else to call, otherwise with the help of hiya
on my iPhone it doesn't ring much anymore.

Should have mentioned that if I order crap delivered or anything
involving a possibility of inbound calls with strangers, thats the only time I'll allow unknown callers. But as soon as I'm done the setting
goes back again.
To me, a phone is a phone. What I have--much to my chagrin--is a pocket computer with a phone app and a two-way radio built in.

Been a few years since I messed around with Android phones... if Apple has it then it should too?

Texting is very difficult for me as I cannot easily use a touchscreen. That and I detest 500-word texts.

And cops are still looking for that serial panty-thief up north...

Thanks for clarifying. I was worried about that, since there are
rumors of you being deported. :D
