• What distro are you using?

Looking to replace my Windows 11 install with Linux. Of course, looking at the usual suspects to install (Ubuntu, Mint, etc). Just curious what you all are running on your linux desktops?

HW is a Dell XPS 15 7590 with 32GB of RAM and 500GB NVME.

I pretty much use Slackware on everything, although I have one test/play machine running MX Linux, which I like pretty well.

I run Debian or Ubuntu mostly these days.
I have used Slackware and RedHat type versions in older installs.
They each have their good and bad parts to them.
Try a few out before you settle on something so you can get a rounded experience.

Most distros will have a livecd so you can "try before you buy". Ask 50 people and you'll get 50 answers. Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Arch, CentOS, Slackware, SuSE, RedHat, etc. etc. It's down to each persons preference.

Most Debian derivatives on the top of the popularity charts will serve you well, I think.

I prefer to use distributions that are close to upstream, ie. not derivatives of derivatives of derivatives, unless they serve a niche purpose.

For the record, I have success installing Kubuntu and MX Linux for new Linux users (despite the fact I don't like those myself).

Nowadays I am more of a BSD user.

I use Linux Mint for Development, I use debian typically for servers, and I have used Slackware for some other applications.

    ... I think I am, therefore, I am... I think.

    Hello,
I am kind of new to Linux and i am still learning. Been using Windows since forever. I was an MCSE while working in IT but never got into the Linux world. I have though over the past year or so have taken a liking to Ubuntu. I think it has the best of both worlds. It can do the expert stuff and can be friendly for newer users. I run Proxmox with 3 Ubuntu VM servers as well as a Windows 10 and Windows 7 VMs that are servers running my BBS's. I also have 2 Windows Servers 2019/2022 but i have not found a real use for them. Any Ideas would be helpful (I do recognize that I am on LinuxNet lol).

On another note, I noticed that i can only reply to certain people on LinuxNet from my BBS. I just finished a setting it up and it seems to be working. I was able to reply to this message but others, it would not let me. I look forward to talking with you all. :)

That’s weird. Should be able to reply to anyone - there isn’t settings in LinuxNet that I am aware of that could or would prevent that.

    What BBs distro?
