• Is an hour of walking everyday enough for a healthy life?

From Mike Dippel@999:1/1 to All on Tue Feb 10 21:50:18 2026
Walking has lots of health benefits, both mental and physical, and beyond just burning
calories (an hour of walking doesn˙t burn much calories).

It is good for your cardiovascular health. It get˙s you outside in the fresh air and sun. It
    helps stimulate digestion.

It helps you destress and improves your mental focus and relaxation (like any type of
    movement does).

However, walking alone is not a "magic bullet" for your health.

Walking cannot make you ripped if that˙s your goal, since it does not stimulate your
muscles enough to build muscle nor maintain muscle if you are trying to lose fat (by
    restricting food).

Combine walking with other healthy habits, like eating regular filling meals with whole,
nutrient-dense foods; limiting refined sugar, trans fats, and saturated fats; getting at
least 8 hours of sleep; getting at least 30 minutes of sunlight daily; drinking at least 4
liters of water per day (you might need more if you workout intensely or if you spend
time in a hot environment); and doing resistance training (weightlifting, calisthenics) at
least 3 times a week (but if you can recover from it and have the time, more times a
week is better, as I resistance train nearly every day).
