• Otosclerosis Hearing Condition

Years ago, my wife was diagnosed with Otosclerosis, which is hearing loss which is
    treatable with minor surgery.

Otosclerosis occurs when when one of the bones in the middle ear, the stapes, becomes
stuck in place. When this bone is unable to vibrate, sound is unable to travel through the
    ear and hearing becomes impaired.

She had her left ear operated on years ago and gained full hearing in that ear again.
The surgery involves removing a bone and implanting a metal piece to take its place.
Very recently, she had surgery on her other ear, and the results were the same.

It is rare to be able to treat hearing loss via surgery, but in her case, it was successful.

Her problem now is that she needs an MRI and it is not known if the first surgery
involved implanting a metal piece or not. If it is metal and not titanium, the MRI could
suck it out. Titanium is a non ferrous metal that does not contain iron.
