• Does carbonated water flush kidneys?

"A large glass of carbonated water a day keeps the urologist away."

Or was it a glass of lemon water ? Or warm water ?

Here in China, one of the important mantras is the latter one (cold water is hardly ever
consumed because of the proclaimed health benefits of warm water), but carbonated
water is indeed on the rise.

Here are some FACTS and MYTHS about the different types of water ˙

FACT: lemons are very high in citrate (citric acid), and are widely recommended on
(popular) medical websites so as to prevent especially calcium oxalate kidney stones
(since citrate binds to calcium and prevents the calcium binding to oxalate or phosphate
    instead).

So it might help to prevent getting calcium oxalate stones, but it doesn˙t help in
    removing them.

FACT: the temperature of the water you drink doesn˙t matter at all. Cold water becomes
body temperature water soon after you drink it and warmer water quickly cools down to
body temperature, so our body couldn˙t care less whether you drink cold water, lukewarm water or hot water. It˙s the water that counts.

So the Chinese mantra is a MYTH.

FACT: when carbonated water reaches the kidneys, it isn˙t carbonated anymore ˙ the
carbon dioxide is long gone. It˙s just good old plain water. In other words, the
carbonated water hype is a MYTH.

MYTH: it is often claimed that carbonated water is bad for your teeth (because of its
very modest acidity), but it˙s actually only ever so slightly more erosive to your teeth, in
that a dentist couldn˙t even tell if you drink carbonated water on a daily basis or plain
water. The teeth thing is a MYTH.

FACT: the lemon juice in the lemon water isn˙t important as well ˙ only the magical
ingredient H2O counts. And that is the water itself.

Keep being hydrated is the single key for our kidneys and the rest of our body
