Wasen't sure if Homesteading or Camping was the ticket for this.

I have always been interested in survivalism. I'm sure most smart people think about it from time to time. I'm much older now then what I once was :-) but over my life time have accumulated a lot of equipment I might require should I suddenly have to 'disappear'. One of my interests (hobbies I suppose). Being a broke musician isn't easy. <grin>

The following is a link to Facebook and it's Canadian but still, wether its Canadian or elsewhere it's an interesting forum.

I'll pass this on to my daughter. Her husband fits the bill.

I didn't request to join so I don't know much about the topics they discuss. Living in
Florida with the constant threat of storms, the most prepared I can get is to have a
whole house generator installed. I can't do solar panels. I DO own a motorhome, so I
can always avoid the storms by taking "my home" with me. I will always have the use
of the generator and the gas stove that are a part of the RV.

    Thanks for the info.

Living in the mountains of North Carolina we are accustomed to power outages. We have a key start generator that runs the entire 1650 sq ft home except the water heater, we have a manual throw valve to run a rv propane water heater if we need hot water during times we have been on generator. It runs 48 hours on a full tank of gas, and the propane rv water heater is connected to the house gas service. It is nice. I want a generac auto start whole house system some day.

I always heard that Onans were the quietest, but now I am hearing differently. It would
be a good choice. In my area, we can figure paying around $11-12,000 including
    installation.

We have natural gas to the house and the perfect spot to place it is where the electric
meter is located. That is also where the gas meter is as well, and the spot would
accommodate it well. My only hope is that it isn't too noisy because my next door
neighbor is fairly close to me.

    We'll see how it goes.
