... If not for the last minute, nothing would get done.

Thanks for the info. I live in a development that provides most premium programming
as a free plus for its residents so I have never looked into it. What equipment or
devices are necessary to create a server?

The server software will run on most any modest computer, on either
Linux or Windows. Usually it is played on your TV via a free app on a
Roku, Apple TV, or similar device (even a Smart TV, I think).

You don't need the "Plex Pass" at all if you're not trying to stream
content outside your house/local network. It's all free.

No, but I have a fair collection from a few decades ago, and some
BluRays too. Those can be ripped to disk files to be used on a server.
The software for doing that is called 'MakeMKV' and 'Handbrake'. All completely legal, but can be finicky with some disks.

Other media I have is from purchased videos/music from various sources.
There is a big rabbit-hole that should be avoided, to try and duplicate NetFlix or similar. There's no reason to do that. Mostly I use mine
for watching Turkish TV shows that I like, which are paid downloads from various sites. I slowly chip away at ripping DVD/BD that I own, but
only the ones that I might actually watch again someday.

There's a whole other world of procuring media out there... Much of
that can be automated. Let's say some of that is in the "grey area" of legality... I don't bother with any of that myself, but it's there.
