I recently purchased a Peavey Bandit guitar amp from a local kid selling it on the internet. The thing was absolutely disgusting and totally reeked of pot. The amp was in working order but all the potentiometers needed a little love. Very scratchy to put it mildly! I pulled it all apart and gave the case a good cleaning (really totally disinfecting and scrubing it with cleaner). With stinky smell gone, I then hit all the pots with lots of 99% isoproply alcohol. Now the thing not only looks like new but sounds like it too. I spent some time on the Peavey wiki page and it seems this amp was built in the early 1980's So it seems I have a retro amp now!
Anyway, very happy with this purchase and life is good with any retro hardware!!

My co-sysop in the 90s worked with me in IT, was laid off after a
merger and got sick of the rat race. He started selling effect pedals
he designed and doing amp and guitar repair work. He loved it.

That's cool. :) I like to play music too, and sometimes I think of
buying some new gear, but then I worry about spending the money. :)

I am in the process of selling my guitars... I'm not playing in a band anymore so I don't need 12 electric guitars and 4 amps. I have already sold one guitar and listed the second one yesterday. All of my guitars are American-made Fenders, one G&L (also American). I'll keep a couple
of guitars and one amp.

!Wow 12 guitars and 4 amps. My 15 year old self would have been
totally jealous ;) I am well past 15 now but miss my high school band.days! Have not seen any of my old h.s.band mates in about 40
years - long sigh.

I like G&L, as well as Fender. I've never played in a band, but
currently I have 2 amps, 3 Strat-style guitars (an American-made
Fender, American-made G&L, and a partscaster), a 6-string acoustic,
and a 12-string acoustic.

If you have the chance, I'd find some people to jam with! To me music is exponential. You play alone - you have some music. You add a second person you have twice as much. But if you play TOGETHER, you can make it sound like more than just two side by side. Then add a third and it's not just triple, it's FULL!
Again, assuming everyone is in sync...

Yeah, over the years I've thought about finding people to jam with, but
I just haven't.. I think one of the troubles is ensuring everyone is
in sync and can think of stuff to play together. Some of my family
also play instruments too, and sometimes we've played together, but sometimes there have been times when we can't think of much to play together, even though there might be stuff we like to play
individually.
Well, when I 'jam' it's usually bluegrass, but sometimes some old country or rockabilly. Jamming Beatles songs is hard because of all the non-standard voicings/chords.

If bluegrass is in any way interesting to you, you can do a lot with
G - C - D. :-)

In the 70's, I plyed in a bluegrass jam band with some friends. We
wrote most of hte music ourselves (jamming) and never played it the
same way twice... some of our listeners thought we were very strange.

Most musicians I know are a bit, ya know, different. A sign of the art and mind me thinks. :-)
