    I was wondering how many of those on this message base have played with or
    used winlink? If you have what are your thoughts on it?

    Thoughts? It's cool as heck, but pretty restrictive and makes you jump through some hoops to use. When I leave my radio on the local packet freq, I see people using it daily. I tried it once but forgot my password and had to wait three months or whatever for the account to expire.

    I'd say check it out if you have some kind of use for casual email without a bunch of personal information in it.

    I played with it some time ago, it works pretty well in case you need to send a message to someone and you are off the grid.
    I used it together with VARA modem and was able to use a winlink node that was thousand kilometers away using 40m band.

    But, I didn't find use for it. Only other winlink users may send you an email unless you emailed the nonwinlink email first.
    And it's quite slow and if you don't use is for a year or so, they will disable your account.

    I've used it. Make sure to whitelist addresses outside of winlink you might email so their replies reach you.

    ... I didn't know it was impossible when I did it.

    I use Winlink from time to time both over the internet and over hf.
    Hf is slow and will work for you if you really need it.
    There is also vhf operation that you can do as well.
    Keep your e-mails text and things will work fine.

    I've used it. Make sure to whitelist addresses outside of winlink you might email so their replies reach you.

    You can whitelist domains as well if you want, but be careful how much mail you get.

    And I'm pretty much anything but CW. But I saw this more advanced decoder/encoder that handles natural CW a lot better. Considering it as it would turn CW into another keyboard mode for me.

    No one out here near me enough for winlink vhf but that must be nice to have all that bandwidth...

    VARA was a pain to get working on linux. So I'm super interested in Mercury. Would love a less-fragile option.

    sofar, wanted to try ARDOP or how is it called but wasn't able to configure it properly.

    ARDOP was the only one I had working for a while. I was running Pat (w/ ARDOP) -> Rigctl (hamlib) -> Flrig (because it talks to some of my radios better than hamlib does).
