I think that the biggest project that needs to be tackled would to make a working terminal program for mobile devices. With so many people using phones and tablets now and very few folks still on actual computers, it's needed more than ever. Maybe if someone that knows what they're doing could maybe port Netrunner or Syncterm to mobile, that would be great and probably the easiest rather than building one from scratch.

I'm curious about TERMinator. I had a look in the Google Play Store and searched for TERMinator, but I'm not sure I'm seeing it. I (naturally) see a lot of references to apps based on the Terminator movies.. I saw that TERMinator seems to be made by the sysop of Absinthe BBS and it can be downloaded there, so I checked out his BBS but it wasn't really obvious where to download it from. Unless I just missed something..

Nice, but it's not always convenient to use an external keyboard on the go. And with the on-screen keyboard you'll get tired of constantly switching it back and forth, since in landscape mode it covers almost all of the content.

When ssh-ing to my node in ConnectBot, I have to shrink the terminal window to 50-60 cols so the font isn't too small in portrait mode: https://temp.jegor.net/ftn_ssh.jpg

But I doubt it's possible to visit BBSes online in the same way, with an arbitrary terminal window size.

Dunno if this has been brought up yet or not, but would it be possible to make menu themes that are targeted for the smaller devices? And then detect on login that it's a device in a certain orientation? Or offer the "mobile" theme option.

Menu options might have to be pared down so everything would fit legibly on the smaller screen, but could be interesting.

i know in mystic you can create alternate versions of all of your theme files and it'll display them if it detects that size. 40 column is pretty common from other mostly non-PC stuff.. two birds with one stone.

i think if i were to do it i might make a 40, 60, and 80 column setup. i use cp437 ( https://github.com/keaston/cp437 ) and plain linux telnet @ 80 columns on my phone under Termux and it's okay for me.. ~65 is 'comfy' if i'm tinkering with other non-BBS stuff and 40 just seems jombo. everyone's phone and preference will be different..

a lot of those sizes that are 'comfy' to read are also at least 30 rows.. so you could certainly make up for lack of width with some extra message space down below.

I think there has been issues with Google Play's verification process. The .apk files are available for download on Absinthe, and if I remember right, it was some "sysop favorites" menu off of the main menu.

And while the sysop of Absinthe had a very big part in the making of the app, he didn't program it. One of his users did.

Its so freaking awesome. You are awesome; TERMinator is awesome, KNK2 is awesome - where are we headed in 2026??

I think that the biggest project that needs to be tackled would to make a working terminal program for mobile devices. With so many people using phones and tablets now and very few folks still on actual computers,
it's needed more than ever. Maybe if someone that knows what they're doing could maybe port Netrunner or Syncterm to mobile, that would be great and probably the easiest rather than building one from scratch.

Well, thats exactly what TERMinator is trying to do RIGHT NOW. Download at deadmodemsociety.com, aBSINTHE BBS or 2o fOr beeRS. Currently on v1.18 with the dev [Xpilot] very receptive to input on zer0net...

I love this community - from all the FTNs that were here when I came to the new Door Games, Terminal Softwares, BBSes and various projects are STILL popping up...

I enjoy it as well. And I am STILL meaning to play in one of your
monthly Doom games, and haven't made it yet..

They've calmed down a BIT, but cool thing is almost every month we're playing a new map and seeing some friends...

Jump on in - I've had trouble having the machine I HAVE ON ME being setup w/ Zandronum AND DoomSeeker... but its there every 1st month. Come on by!!! :P

Nice, but it's not always convenient to use an external keyboard on the go. And with the on-screen keyboard you'll get tired of constantly switching it back and forth, since in landscape mode it covers almost
    all of the content.

I would love a modern phone with a swing-out keyboard, like in the
2000s. Those save the entire screen for display instead of taking up
half of it for the keyboard.

Pinephone makes a nice keyboard case for their phones, but I'm not ready
    for a Linux phone. Yet.

I think there has been issues with Google Play's verification process. The .apk files are available for download on Absinthe, and if I remember right, it was some "sysop favorites" menu off of the main menu.

    I'll have to check again.

And while the sysop of Absinthe had a very big part in the making of the app, he didn't program it. One of his users did.

I think it's still cool to see another BBS-compatible telnet client for mobile devices.
