• Old Movie

From Ed Vance@1:2320/105 to All on Fri Oct 25 11:24:36 2024
Ages ago I worked at a neighborhood Movie Theater.
On Wednesdays the cost for a Ticket was ten cents for a child , twenty-five cents for a adult.

The films shown on Wednesday were movies the owner had bought and kept in a storage shed behind the theater.

I had the job of hunting for the large poster and 8X10 pictures that advertised coming attractions so they could be put in the large windows in front of the building.

While searching thru the pile of movie posters I saw a old movie that looked like I would enjoy seeing. I asked the boss, and he said it would be O.K. to show it next week.

The movie was made either in the 1930's or maybe the 1940's.
It is about a school age girl who goes on a date with an older gentleman.

They go to a movie, then go somewhere to dance and go drink a milk shake before taking her home.

One co-star in the movie is another girl and when I saw her I remember seeing her as a neighbor on a TV Show back in the late 1950's.

At the IMDb com (Internet Movie Date Base) they have a search option but it looked to me like it was complicated so I thought to ask here if anyone knew the name of the movie I remember seeing once long ago.
    Thanks, Ed

That sounds like Paper Moon (1973), a classic film starring
Tatum O'Neal and her father, Ryan O'Neal. In this movie, Tatum
plays a young girl named Addie, who forms an unlikely
partnership with an older con man named Moses Pray as they
travel across the Midwest during the Great Depression. They end
up in various adventures, including having milkshakes and
exploring different aspects of small-town America.

Another character who could fit the description of "another
girl" is Trixie Delight, played by Madeline Kahn, who also
becomes a part of their travels.

    The following is ChatGPTs output:

"It sounds like you might be describing the movie Bachelor Mother (1939) starring Ginger Rogers and David Niven. In this romantic comedy, Ginger Rogers plays a young woman who ends up on a date with an older gentleman,
and there are scenes involving misunderstandings and awkward dates that
could fit parts of your description.

Another possibility is The Major and the Minor (1942), where Ginger Rogers pretends to be a young girl while actually being an adult. The film
involves her traveling with a military major, played by Ray Milland, and
the storyline includes humorous misunderstandings about her age, some
dates, and innocent outings that could match your description.

The detail about a co-star who appeared as a neighbor on a TV show in the late 1950s suggests someone who later transitioned to television, which
might help further narrow it down. If either of these films sounds right
or close, let me know, and I can help dig further!"

I thought it was Ozzie and Harriett Nelsons neighbors wife , but I checked it out on IMDB and that was a different lady.

I thought about asking her in the Memories echo.
It's too late to ask Nancy Backus, she may have seen the movie when it was released.

Thanks for trying to help me.
Paper Moon is a little different than what I recall.
The Man in the movie I saw wasn't a con man.
The movie was about Clean Cut Folks.
Way back when movies WERE better than ever.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
I didn't know Ginger Rogers was in movies before I was born.
The first time I saw her in a movie the movie had a lot of dancing in it.
    That was in the mid-1950's.

I will check out Bachelor Mother's and The Major and the Minor.
    Thanks again for the help.

I finally found My ROUNDTUIT and checked out Bachelor Mother's and The Major and the Minor movies at IMDb.com neither of those twoshowswere what I recall seeing.

Ginger Rogers is much older in those movies than the Cast was in the one I'm asking about.
I don't recall seeing a baby in that movie either.

I would guess the Star in the show was 14 and the Co-star was 17 or 18.
The adult man was 35 or so.

    Thanks for all the help.

Nevermind. I got duped when you capitized cast.

Sounds like you simply need to research all of Ginger Rogers
films, post 1946 and see read the plots to narrow things down.

Sorry to throw a loop at You.
I used Cast to mean all of the actors and actresses in that movie.

In the two Ginger Rogers flicks I looked at on IMDB she was much older than most of the girls in my movie.
As I wrote earlier the teen age Co-Star who later was in a 1950 era TV Show was the only person I was familiar with other than the male actor.
It has been over 60 years since I saw that movie.
Where the Theater was is now a ramp to a Interstate highway and the boss I worked for has passes away.
I doubt if his family has his 35MM movie collection now.
The Shed he had those movie reels in was about 12 feet square, it was a big collection.

    Thanks again August
I bookmarked the Finishing School article on Wikipedia after scrolling through it a bit.
Don't think it is the movie I remember .

The movie story was in a small town in the USA .

Appreciate your looking around for me.

Today I looked on IMDB for the Actress Debbie Reynolds but none of her shows were like the show I saw.
