• Old gear.

From Mark Hofmann@1:261/1304 to All on Tue Oct 28 18:29:07 2025

I will admit that some old gear, I shouldn't have tossed. Like my original Vic-20, Atari 2600, Compaq huggable luggable "portable", and lots of old Apple // gear.

My rule of thumb is "Do I think I will ever use this again?". If no, then it goes in the trash. I recently tossed several tuners and (3) original modded Xboxs. I needed to free up more space for other crap. :)

    This.

I refuse to sell anymore on Ebay for this reason...

I would rather give them away locally or toss them.

I haven't been able to park my car in a garage I've owned/rented since being married. Told myself one of my guilty pleasures was going to be to buy an old car with carbs, points, a distributor and fix it up in my garage - I'm still waiting for that to happen.

Yup. It's got Debian on it, and it's been all over the world in my backpack. Nice little machine. Cheap too :-)

I can't remember but if its the X1 Yoga, yes Debian is probably "the" distro that works best on it.

I have come to the point now that I can actually park a car in the garage ... that must now be 30 years or so last time I did.

That must have been some downsizing. The issue with most garages is they are too small even with not much stuff in them. Having tools, shelves, extra beer fridge, and you can't get any regular sized vehicle in there.

I keep both my Harley's in our two car attached garage, but the fleet stays outside. Maybe one day there will room for at least one vehicle in there.

Before we decided to stay put where I currently live, I was looking at homes with large detached garages/barns that had way more property. To get out of the neighborhood life and also lots of space for getting a bunch of cheap classic cars I could tinker with.

Fast forward to now, we are staying put espcially since I just had an in-ground pool put in this spring. I have my existing fleet that I can tinker with and the two motorcycles, so that is good enough.

I looked at one place up in the hills near Santa Cruz with a barn
converted into a 3 car garage. Oh, it would have been nice.

The barn geometry didn't look right - the building looked deeper than
the interior. There was a workshop area on the side wall revealing an
interior wall that ran the back of the barn. A little digging revealed a
hidden door, and inside the missing space were rows of growlights,
water and drainage systems. It would have come in handy before they
    legalized marijuana in California!
