The final voter who broke the tie apparently explained his
vote saying that he was just worried Trump's next choice might
be even worse.. High praise indeed.. B)

That and he felt like his constituents spoke out during the primary when they voted for his challenger to be the nominee this Fall... a challenger heavily endorsed by Trump that Trump (and likely AIPAC) stood up after the current congressperson didn't tow the MAGA line (and, IIRC, voted to impeach Trump at least once).

Blanche also apparently promised to oppose the Jan 6 defense fund and another initiative that would have made the Trump family immune to future IRS tax audits, and that factored into his decision.

I was actually shocked he didn't continue sticking it to Trump. If he got me primaried out, I sure would have.

I saw a political cartoon that made some reference to this but I didn't realize it was an actual event. I wonder how many other Presidents ever had to use a look-alike but were smart enough not to broadcast it?

Could be. If it were me, and the things that were said by Trump and MAGA were said about me, that bribe would have to be a very large one. Like, "how much did it cost you and AIPAC to primary me out?" large. ;)

I suppose it happens now and then. You almost had to expect this
for Trump since he has 'annoyed' a great many people in recent years.
It seemed to take Iran a lot longer to actually get serious about
it than I expected. Maybe Trump was just so well protected that they
couldn't get near him but you'd think they would have been trying to
hit him the day after he sent his first missile their way..

Ha.. They had a film clip on our news showing the double walking
up the stairs onto Air Force 1 and it looked like they went out
of their way to only show the back of his head, which in itself
should have looked unusual for Trump. He seems to usually take
any opportunity to get into the camera shots.

I have seen some news about this one now. Apparently, it has to do with the "new" Air Force One that he received from a Middle Eastern country (Dubai ?). It was supposed to be retrofitted with a bunch of security stuff but, supposedly, Trump didn't want to wait long enough for that to be completed so he started using the plane.

While in Turkey, the Secret Service determined that it was not safe to fly out in that one because the securityh work wasn't completed, and there may (or may not) have been a reasonable threat, so the Secret Service told him to move to the older Air Force One.

The reports have mentioned no look-alike. They did mention that some members of the cabinet and entourage were moved to the old plane, while a few... Rubio was one... and the press corp were left on the new plane. I don't know about the cabinet members that were left behind, but the press corps was unaware that any switch-a-roo or potential threat was made.

That seems to be what is keeping it in the news here... if there was a credible threat, why was the press corps left on the plane rather than also being evacuated?

    I hope being a Trump look-alike pays well.. B)

If it is the same clip they've shown here, that wasn't a double but was Pete Hegseth who, for whatever reason, boarded the old Air Force One separate from the others -- he was not among those in the catering truck. It was taken from a far-enough vantage point that who it might have been was not obvious in the footage. It was announced later that it was footage of Hegseth boarding while the others were apparently still in the truck on the way to the plane.

Under normal circumstances I might question that but if you figure they were flying it out of the USA (where they have better control over the situation) and then trying to fly it back home from an area that is Middle East adjacent, it actually makes sense -- especially if there actually was a threat.

I hadn't heard he used to old Air Force One, just another plane..

Yes, apparently so. The footage that shows what looks like a catering-type van pulling up to a plane, the plane is the older Air Force One that, for whatever reason, Trump doesn't like. From reports, it is apparently getting a little old but is still considered safe to fly (obviously).

That seems to be what is keeping it in the news here... if there
    >was a credible threat, why was the press corps left on the plane

Well, I am certain there are some sources that are going to say what they are told (i.e. FOX) but this particular source is one that is constantly critical (MS NOW, formerly MS-NBC). This was all shown during a critical piece about "why wasn't the press corps notified that they might be in danger?" and also questioning some things that I suspect are actually true... like the Secret Service made, or was involved in, the call to switch planes. I doubt that Trump would want to leave his new toy without valid reason, and I doubt the Secret Service would want him to stay on it if there really was any credible threat.

It would be very funny if he did have a double, though. All through the Biden admin, the belief that there was a Biden double was a big thing among MAGA conspiracy theorists, who all took it as proof that Biden was incapacitated (or deceased). I cannot remember if Trump was part of perpetuating that or not.

I recall a lot going on about that back then, more online than on the conventional TV news who might have shown the odd Biden slip or trip
but comments on that up here were more about what was being said
down there rather than giving an opinion on his health or condition.
At his age things like that are to be expected for most people.

It seemed a much bigger deal was being made about it than it
maybe deserved. Trump had a few 'comments' about Biden being too
old to carry on but I don't recall anything worse than that.

That said, Biden WAS maybe a little too old for the 'job'.

I actually cannot remember either. I think the main thing about the new plane is that it was technically a gift to Trump and it will go with him when he leaves office (supposedly to his Presidential Library). There is another former President that has a plane as part of their library so he wanted one, too, of course. ;)

    Indeed.

Latest report I saw regarding the plane switcheroo was that he actually boarded the original plane before being secretly removed, along with several (but not all) of his advisors and cabinet. This was mentioned during a piece questioning why they/he would evacuate his young, attractive "social media advisor" but not Marco Rubio, and also questioning her exact role in the administration. :D
