Two 'prolific' Auckland shoplifters were caught red-handed by police after a tip-off as to their vehicle's whereabouts.
Police were seeking the two women, aged 24 and 25, regarding an earlier
theft, when they stopped their vehicle on Mount Wellington Highway.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dean Batey said they allegedly had ill-gotten goods with them when they were pulled over.
"While speaking with them, the officers noticed two large rubbish bags filled with chocolate, which was believed to be stolen."
The pair were arrested and charged with four counts of shoplifting, the total value of stolen goods given as more than $1700.
"The goods included multiple bottles of shampoo, deodorant, moisturiser, chocolate, make up, chewing gum and pain medication," said Batey.
The stolen products were then returned to the retailers they originated from.
Both women have been remanded on bail and will reappear in Manukau District Court on May 7.
