A man has been charged with murder following the deaths of a woman and two young children in Hastings on Sunday as the victims' family says they are devastated by the "senseless violence" that took their loved ones.
Police confirmed the man is scheduled to appear via a bedside hearing today
in relation to the deaths.
In a statement released on behalf of the victims' family, relatives said they are struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"Our family is heartbroken and devastated by the tragic loss of our loved
ones in Hastings," the statement said.
"We are struggling to come to terms with the senseless violence that has
taken three beautiful lives far too soon."
The family said the victims were deeply loved and will be missed beyond words.
"At this incredibly difficult time, we ask for privacy as we grieve together and support one another," the statement said.
They also thanked emergency services, investigators, and members of the wider community for their care and compassion during what they described as an unimaginable time.
Police investigations into the deaths are ongoing.
Residents of Avenue Road East told 1News the area was typically seen as safe.
"It was a shock. this is a safe street and the people are lovely. We don't
have any drama. it's very sad," one resident said.
Another resident said: "Hopefully, they can find out why this has occurred. It's a very quiet street but [we] didn't hear a thing until we saw the actual cordon. [It's] very sad to hear.
"My wishes go out to their family."
