A serious crash has closed State Highway 2 north of Napier this morning.


The two-vehicle crash near Tangoio Settlement Rd closed State Highway 2, Tangoio just before 9am.

The road was expected to be closed for a significant period of time.


New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi warned motorists to avoid the area
as there was no immediate detour available, and to expect delays.


Landslide disrupts alternative route
A route being used as a diversion following the serious crash has also been affected by a landslide.


Police said the northbound lane on State Highway 5, near the Mohaka Bridge,
is partially blocked.


"Traffic is able to get through but we ask motorists to drive with caution in the area."
