Former prime minister Dame Jacinda Ardern has joined Oxford University's Blavatnik School of Government as a Distinguished Fellow and member of the world leaders circle.

Dame Jacinda has a three-year affiliation to the network of former heads of government, and will attend an annual gathering at the English university.

The world leaders circle aims to improve governance around the world.

In a statement, Professor Ngaire Woods said they were delighted to welcome
    Dame Jacinda.

"Her leadership in times of crisis, commitment to public service, and deep understanding of governance will bring invaluable insights to our global community."

Professor Woods said the Oxford initiative would be aiming to train aspiring public leaders from 60 countries this year.

Dame Jacinda said in a statement she hoped to contribute to thinking around
the deep challenges the global community was facing.

"Through the Christchurch Call community's work to eliminate terrorist and violent extremism content online I have worked with the Blavatnik School in
the past. Joining the world leaders circle will not only provide an
opportunity to strengthen these connections, it will give me a chance to work alongside a new generation of leaders - students from over 60 different countries - interested in enhancing governance through empathetic leadership."

Since leaving politics Dame Jacinda has spent time in the United States
working for Harvard University and is a trustee of Prince William's Earthshot Prize.
