    That was what I have.

    Again, the sdb does not show up when I run cfdisk

    Im still trying to output the dmesg to a file so i can read it.

    I'll see if i can find anything in var/log/messages next time.

    thank you, i was trying it backwards as well as trying to grep into a file. Either way, I was able to find the solution to my initial problem. Thanks to help i found here.

    Now I can log in here, switch to a different terminal. try the command and switch back. That's one of the things I love about slack.

    That's a linux thing, not a slack thing. Actaully, SCO Unix also had
    virtual terminals. I'm sure others did too.

    The 2TB drive IS there, its /dev/sdb. It has a 1.8TiB partition.

    When you start cfdisk, you need to specify the disk to use as a command line parameter. It defaults to /dev/sda, which is why you are only seeing that disk. Thats all it was!


    Start cfdisk like this

    /sbin/cfdisk /dev/sdb

    or
    sudo /sbin/cfdisk /dev/sdb

    However you start it, ALL you need to do is just add /dev/sdb as a parameter. and you'll be editing /dev/sdb.

    Alternatively, you can try GParted.

    I suspected that it was something like that.
