I'm not sure if I'm going to get any sort of messages back on this, but I
realized it'd been too long since I've posted on here, anyway. ;) Does anybody around here have any experience using 'expect' on a *NIX system for working with text-based systems over a telnet/SSH link or anything of the sort?
I'd be ever so grateful if anybody knows of any DECENT tutorial links out there. All of the ones that I've turned up to this point have really (unfortunately) kind of sucked. :(

`expect`? Is that a command? What is it?

"expect" is an automation tool that allows for unattended interaction with terminal-based programs. For example, you can set a loginUser and loginPassword, and when the output of the program displays "password:" it would throw the password.
It's pretty slick. I've used it for EMC Cloning for database environments (SDLC type tiers) where I clone production database LUNs (volume groups) down tiers.
(and, this is an old thread, but who cares.)
