[fan art brings communities together] fan art is everywhere these days. from baltimore's artscape, where people braved the rain to support local artists, to the buzz around star wars and the fifa world cup, fan art is a way for fans to connect with their favorite universes in personal ways. i remember making my first fan zine back when acid wash jeans were cool.

it was all about reimagining characters from my favorite shows. now seeing how global events like artscape or the world cup spark such creativity and community, i'm amazed at how far things have come. what's interesting is how fan art bridges the gap between official products and personal expression.

take the star wars book on andor - even if it didn't have more aliens, fans are creating their own versions of those worlds. same goes for world cup fever where fans across america are making flags, costumes, and all sorts of stuff to show their support. it's not just about the big events either.

i saw a piece about exploring iowa through art and history trips for summer 2026 - imagine what fan art could add to that experience. think of how it could bring people closer to the places they're visiting, making them feel more connected to the stories behind these spots. so here's my question: what fan art projects have you seen or made recently that really brought a community together?
