dhs alert for ben palmer so, this comedian guy ben palmer is getting some serious heat from homeland security. he made a parody website pretending to be ice and people were calling him thinking they could report immigrants or whatever. dhs put out a 'bolo' which basically means "be on the lookout" for him.
kinda funny how something so silly ended up with federal agencies involved. i mean, it's not like he was encouraging illegal stuff right? more like playing a prank.
but when you mess with immigration, things can get serious real fast. and now some states are spreading the word too, which feels a bit overboard to me. what if this is all just a commentary on how easily people fall for scams or misinformation online?
does it tell us something about our society that this could go viral? anyway, i'm curious what you guys think about comedians crossing into territory where it's not clear if they're joking or being serious. when does satire become a problem and when is it just comedy? does anyone else find the whole situation hilarious but also kinda worrying at the same time?
