[kickstarter is just enabling lazy artists] Kickstarter's not doing anyone any favors. I see so many projects there that are just plain garbage or half-assed attempts at making a quick buck. It's like the new normal has become "I'll make something good when it hits, but in the meantime let me take pre-orders and cash someone else's checks.

" Let's face it: how many kickstarters deliver on time? How many are just slapped together because they can't sell their work normally? The bar should be higher than a half-finished prototype with some slick marketing.

Artists need to earn their audience, not just beg for money before they've put in the legwork. And don't get me started on the quality of stuff that actually ships. Some projects are so poorly executed it's insulting to backers who funded them.

Yet Kickstarter gets away with it because, hey, people paid into this pipe dream and now have no recourse but to be happy about whatever they get shipped back to them in shrink wrap. Artists need to learn to hustle on their own terms. Putting out a half-baked concept just to get funding is not hustling, it's gaming the system. You want something done?

Do the damn work yourself or find real sponsors who care about quality over quantity. So here's my challenge: anyone brave enough to argue that Kickstarter helps more than it hurts? I'll wait.
