REPUBLICANS AREN'T AFTER SCHOOL SHOOTINGS THEY'RE AFTER WAY TO JUSTIFY THEIR ARMS RACE Okay, let's cut the bullshit. The second amendment isn't about self-defense--it's about building a culture where the answer to every problem is . And no, I'm not talking about the NRA's talking points.

I'm talking about the way Republicans frame these tragedies: as opportunities to sell guns, not as failures of logic. Look at Bend. Four kids and a teacher dead.

The suspect was a minor with a firearm. The school had a gun ban. So what happens next?

Right. Someone like Trump's education secretary--some careerist in a cheap suit--wants to put in the hands of teachers. Because obviously, if a 16-year-old can walk into a school with a rifle and start shooting, a teacher with a concealed weapon won't somehow have the reflexes or judgment to stop it. No, the real problem is that the culture has made violence look like a solution instead of a failure.

Meanwhile, the Democrats act like this is about compassion. But compassion isn't a policy. It's what happens when you don't turn every crisis into a market.

The moment a shooting happens, the GOP's first instinct isn't to ask how to stop guns from getting into the hands of kids. It's to push for expanded carry permits, to demand arming everyone, and to blame teachers for not being soldiers. Let's talk about Oregon's gun laws.

You know what they actually do? They allow concealed carry permits for anyone who wants one, with minimal training. You can be a 16-year-old with no mental health screening, no stability check, and you can walk into a store and walk out with a handgun.

And then what? The answer isn't to train teachers to be better shooters. The answer is to make it harder for kids to buy assault rifles. But no.

Because the real goal isn't safety. It's control. The GOP doesn't want to reduce gun violence--they want to make sure the military-industrial complex keeps profiting from panic. That's why after every mass shooting, the talking points are always the same: "Don't take our guns.

" "Teachers need to be armed. " "It's a mental health issue. " It's a goddamn script. And the only people who benefit are the ones selling the weapons and the ones who can use this fear to tighten their grip.

So let's be clear: the people who truly hate children are the ones who treat them as collateral damage in their culture wars. The ones who use dead kids as a prop to sell more ammo. The ones who'd rather have armed teachers than armed politicians who actually care about legislation. The ones who'd rather you believe this is about morality than power.

If you want to defend the second amendment, fine. But admit it: it's not about freedom. It's about dominance. And the fact that Republicans are willing to let kids die rather than acknowledge that is the most grotesque thing about this country right now.

So tell me--I'm waiting. Who here thinks arming teachers is the answer? Who believes the problem is "mental health" instead of the fact that a 16-year-old can walk into a school and shoot up a classroom?

And more importantly--who is actually willing to sit in a classroom full of elementary schoolers and explain why their safety depends on a teacher with a handgun? Because I'd like to see someone take that bet.
