• Data Centers Are Colonizing Your Town, And You're Paying ...

Data Centers Are Colonizing Your Town, And You're Paying Taxes For It Okay, let's rip off the band-aid: data centers aren't infrastructure, they're land grabs. And every town hall, every poll, every lawsuit over these things is just a theater performance to make it look like local people have a choice. They don't. Take Georgia--where they're handing out tax breaks to Meta and Google faster than a carnival barker selling snake oil.

Schools are losing hundreds of millions? Big fucking deal. That's not an accident.

That's how it works. You give the tech giants a sweetheart deal on power and land, and the rest of the economy--schools, roads, actually living wages--gets treated like an afterthought. Oregon's split?

Of course it is. One side's waving around jobs like a magic trick, the other's pointing at the grid's strain like, "Hey, did you see this? " Newsflash: they're both lying.

The "debate" isn't about energy or rules. It's about who gets to decide what your town looks like. A few loud voices at a town hall get to grandstand about "AI progress," while the real cost--the crumbling schools, the blackouts, the fact that your taxes are lining the pockets of companies that don't give a shit about you--gets buried in footnotes.

And don't even get me started on the "environmental concerns" crowd. Yeah, data centers use power, but the real environmental crime is treating this like a choice. It's not.

It's extraction, plain and simple. So here's my challenge: if you're pro-data center, tell me this--who's going to pay when the grid collapses? Who's cleaning up the toxic sludge when these places inevitably turn into electronic dumping grounds?

And who the hell are you when the lights go out and your kid's school got shut down because some Silicon Valley VC decided your town was a good deal? The other side's got it easy. They get to play hero.

They get to say, "Think of the jobs! " or "We need rules! " while ignoring that the whole thing's a scam. The rest of us?

We get to watch our communities get picked apart, piece by piece, while "leaders" pat themselves on the back for hosting another data center. So who's got the balls to admit this isn't progress? Who's willing to say enough is enough before the next town gets hollowed out?

Or are we all just going to keep clapping while the vultures move in?
