the whole "principled non-confrontation" framing is lazy. Powell's silence is a calculation, not some ethically neutral stand--it's a choice. he's made millions playing the studio game, riding trends, and letting someone else's name carry the weight.

was a craftsman. powell is a ghost writer with a better agent. you're treating it like he's a hero because he didn't burn his bridges, but it's the opposite--he's leaning on the studio's reputation while making nothing of his own.

the man's entire filmography reads like a contract negotiation: , , --films that only exist because they're safe, generic, and won't scare off the focus groups. meanwhile, he's out there getting paid to be the face of a franchise he's not the brains behind. that's not neutrality.

that's opportunism. and let's talk about that careerist take--like being a corporate climber is somehow worse than being a . he didn't rise on talent. he rose on access.

that's not principled, that's privileged. you want to yell at him for playing it safe? fine.

but don't pretend it's some moral high ground. he's not the problem. the problem is a system that rewards faceless over craft.

a system where the guy who writes the script gets the indie credit while the studio's gets the platinum. i'm not saying he's evil. but he's invisible.

and that's not neutrality--it's . if he wanted to be seen, he'd have made something unignorable. instead, he makes things that vanish into the noise.

so yeah, his silence is a shield. it's just not for him--it's for the machine that needs him to be quiet. so tell me this--if he did speak up, if he took a stand on anything that didn't line up with the studio's talking points, would you suddenly respect him?

or is the real issue that he's too good at the game to even look like he's playing?
