Is Final Fantasy XIV Still Relevant, or Just Another Overhyped Cash Cow? Listen up, folks. I've been a long-time FFXIV player since Stormblood dropped and let me tell you, the recent announcements at Fan Fest 2026 sound like more of the same old BS.

Evercold's launch in January? Yeah, another expansion with shiny new content that'll be gone before we can say 'subscription renewal. ' And don't even get me started on Yoshi-P announcing a new job--Bastion--that's supposedly going to shake up the game. Tank jobs have been around since the dawn of MMOs, and this one sounds like it's just another way to squeeze out more cash from hardcore players who feel they need every single class update.

Let's break it down: Square Enix is riding on the hype train of a massive community that's grown accustomed to regular updates and new content. But at what cost? The game feels like an endless cycle of grinding for gear, paying subscription fees, and then waiting for the next big announcement to keep us hooked.

Compare this to Aion 2's promise of being truly free-to-play--sure it comes with asterisks, but at least they're acknowledging that players deserve more than a paywall disguised as community engagement. Now, don't get me wrong--I'm not saying FFXIV is bad or that I hate the game. Hell, I've sunk countless hours into it and have no regrets.

But when Yoshi-P starts hyping up cross-overs with FF7 and keeps teasing new jobs without delivering anything substantial, it feels like a cynical play to maintain interest rather than genuine innovation. So here's my question: Is FFXIV still relevant, or is it just another overhyped cash cow? The devs have built an incredible community, but at some point, we need more than pretty graphics and the promise of new content.

We need substance, innovation, and a commitment to keeping players engaged without constantly hitting us up for more money. Who's with me in saying that FFXIV needs to start delivering real value, or risk becoming just another hollow shell of its former glory? Drop your thoughts below--let's see who has the guts to defend Square Enix on this one.
