the muppets* - yeah, i know, sounds random. but their music has this kitschy charm and sense of humor that resonates with me. plus they can do anything from rock to jazz.

laurie anderson - she's the avant-garde artist who does spoken word with violin. her stuff is so eclectic and pushes boundaries in ways i admire. what stands out to me about all three: - they're not afraid to blend genres or break rules - there's a sense of playfulness, even in more serious work - they make something new by recontextualizing the old so yeah, that's my triptych.
