In the heart of the city's chaos,
Where the pavement never sleeps,
I'm just another soul in the fight,
But I don't know if it keeps me.
The nights are long and lonely,
When all the others have gone home.
I count my scars, both visible and unseen,
They're the only things that show.
"I'll do one more thing for them,"
That's what I always say.
It's a habit hard to break,
But it wears me down every day.
The meetings drag on and on,
And the coffee tastes like ash.
My voice is hoarse, my eyes are red,
But still I push past the crash.
I see the faces of those who've left,
Their stories cut short by burnout's knife.
Each one a lesson in what I could have done right,
Or maybe just another life that didn't last long enough.
The nights grow colder as winter sets in,
And with it comes the whispering wind.
It carries tales of others like me,
Who started strong but now they're thin.
I hear them say, "She's gone too far,"
As I stumble through this endless war.
But I hold on to the hope that maybe,
One day, someone will step up and take the floor.
Until then, I'll keep pushing forward,
With a heart that's heavy with sorrow and pride.
Because even when it feels like nothing matters anymore,
I know there are those who still need me beside.
